2011/2012 Drought and Wildfires

Picture
The devastating drought conditions throughout the entire State of Texas led to increased occurences of wildfires over a wide area of Texas. Central and Eastern regions of the state were suffering the same conditions that western regions have done for several years before.
Bastrop County had one of the worst fires in the State with loss of 1600 plus homes to the fire. The lions learned from that fire the need to have a written plan of action so we could inform the clubs in our districts of how they can serve better. The key element is that whatever Lions Clubs decide to do to support disaster relief efforts in the
communities in which they serve those alert teams must be trained in disaster relief.
This web page will have links to Training from the TEXAS VOAD, IFRC, CERT see the training page. There will be webinars on the following subjects:
  • Stages of Disaster Relief-Where do Lions Clubs Fit
  • Completing Disaster Relieve Plans-District/Club

You will also on the training site be able to request a onsite training class for your district or zones within your district.
Another key element is the  who is in charge of the program implementation in each of Texas Lions Districts. you will find there contact info on the District Alert chair Page.
